§ 7. Mr. JOELasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any proposals have yet been made by the Dutch Government for the joint consideration of a rubber restriction scheme; and, if so, what reply has been made?
§ Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTERNo proposals have been made by the Netherlands Government.
14. Mr. CAMPBELLasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what percentage of the world's rubber area, is planted in Malaya; how much rubber it is expected to produce in 1933; what percentage this is of the estimated world's production of rubber; and what are the 826 equivalent figures for the Dutch East Indies?
§ Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTERMy information is that, at the beginning of 1932, approximately 36 per cent. of the world's acreage of plantation rubber was in Malaya, and 42 per cent. in the Netherlands East Indies. The output of rubber depends largely on price, and I regret that I can give no reliable estimate of probable production in 1933.
