§ 17. Dr. J. WILLIAMSasked the Minister of Labour what schemes are in operation for the provision of work for unemployed women; and how many women have been provided with work under such schemes since October, 1931?
§ 20. Mr. T. WILLIAMSasked the Minister of Labour the number of women for whom work has been found since October, 1931, through schemes initiated by the Government?
§ Sir H. BETTERTONI would refer the hon. Members to the reply given to the Member for Aberdare (Mr. G. Hall) on 16th February, of which I am sending them a copy. The total number of women and girls trained under the schemes referred to in that reply who were placed in employment during the period from October, 1931, to the end of February, 1933—including those trained at St. Mary's Training Centre, Portobello Road, to which a grant is given—was 5,768.
§ Mr. T. WILLIAMSCan the right hon. Gentleman say how many of these trainees secured positions?
§ Sir H. BETTERTONI could give that information if I had notice. Speaking from recollection, I think that a very large percentage secured appointments.
§ Sir H. BETTERTONI could not say without notice, and I very much doubt whether I could even if I had notice, but, if the hon. Member cares to put down a question, I will see what I can do.
