§ Sir H. BETTERTONDuring the period 12th November, 1931, to 4th February, 1933, the determinations given by public assistance authorities and commissioners on applications for transitional payments included 920,427 in which it was held that the needs of applicants did not justify payment being made. This figure 473 includes renewals and revisions and the number of separate individuals concerned is not available. I am unable to give the number of cases in which the applicants in question had dependants.
