HC Deb 23 March 1933 vol 276 c485
39. Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the Minister of Health whether, before approving any scheme for assistance under the new Housing Bill, he will first ensure that an investigation has been carried out by the local authorities in the areas into the means of those people now inhabiting subsidised houses therein?

Sir H. YOUNG

I fear the adoption of this suggestion would involve an unreasonable delay in cases where houses are urgently needed.

40. Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the Minister of Health whether, in any case in which he may approve a grant to a scheme prepared but not actually sanctioned before 7th December last, he will satisfy himself that the houses shall be occupied by the poorest class of the community, for whom they are intended?

Sir H. YOUNG

I cannot make special conditions for housing schemes sanctioned after 7th December, but my hon. Friend's object is the object which I shall have in view in considering these schemes, as indeed I have in all cases.
