HC Deb 23 March 1933 vol 276 c484
35. Mr. McENTEE

asked the Minister of Health if he will give the names of the local authorities now exercising their powers under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts; the number of loans made; and the total amount spent for the latest available year?

Sir H. YOUNG

I am sending to the hon. Member a list of the names of the 225 local authorities in England and Wales who made advances during the 12 months ended 30th September, 1932, under the Acts in question. As to the other information for which he asks, I would refer him to the reply given to his question of the 7th instant.

Mr. McENTEE

Do not the letters recently sent to county councils asking for loans under the Act indicate a complete change in policy on the part of the Ministry, and why is he now refusing sanction where previously local authorities were encouraged to make application?

Sir H. YOUNG

The answer in both cases is in the negative.

Mr. McENTEE

Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiries of the Walthamstow Borough Council, which will indicate clearly there has been a change of policy?

Sir H. YOUNG

If the hon. Member calls my attention to the circumstances of the particular authority to which he refers, I will, of course, give it consideration.
