§ 51. Captain FULLERasked the Minister of Health how many slum clearance schemes have been submitted by the corporation of Manchester since 1922; how many have been completed; the number of houses affected; and whether any such schemes are now before him for approval?
Sir H. YOUNGOne scheme affecting 199 houses has been completed. In July, 1931, the corporation made a declaration that another area was a clearance area within the scope of Section 1 of the 487 Housing Act, 1930. The corporation have not as yet submitted to me either clearance or compulsory purchase orders, for dealing with this area.
§ Captain FULLERDoes the right hon. Gentleman consider that this is satisfactory in the case of a great and progressive city like Manchester, and is he prepared to consider sympathetically any slum clearance schemes which the corporation may now bring forward?
Sir H. YOUNGI shall be dealing with this matter generally in a circular to local authorities in the immedate future.
