HC Deb 22 March 1933 vol 276 c321
24. Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOX

asked the Secretary of State for India whether it is proposed that under the new Constitution for India the 260 members of the Council of State, the 375 members of the Federal Legislative Assembly, and the 1,585 members of the 11 provincial Legislative Assemblies should receive salaries; and, if so, what the total cost will be to Indian funds?

Sir S. HOARE

It is not contemplated that members of the new Indian Legislatures should receive salaries as such, but I assume that they will, as at present, receive daily allowances during sessions. As it would be for each Legislature to determine the scale of allowances for its members, I cannot give the estimate for which my hon. and gallant Friend asks.
