§ 13. Mrs. COPELANDasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has any information to show in which countries there is in existence legislation which prevents the opening of price-cutting chain stores in towns below a certain minimum population; and, if not, whether he will arrange to obtain information as to the effects of such legislation with a view to introducing similar legislation in this country to protect the retailers in small towns against large scale competition?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANMy attention has been drawn to certain regulations prohibiting the opening of uniform price shops in Germany, but I see no need for the introduction of similar legislation in this country.
