§ 86. Mr. MANDERasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any information has been received in regard to the modification by the Manchukuo Government of the tariff in favour of Japanese oranges and apples in December last, contrary to international treaties; and what action he proposes to take?
§ Mr. BALDWINNo, Sir. In November last the Manchukuo authorities announced that the specific duties hitherto levied on imported oranges and apples had been replaced by ad valorem duties of 15 per cent. and 25 per cent. respectively; but I have no information of discriminatory action on their part in favour of the Japanese fruit.
§ Mr. MANDERWill the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to make inquiries in view of the danger that this may be applied to the textile exports from this country?
§ Mr. BALDWINI am advised that there is no discrimination.
