HC Deb 16 March 1933 vol 275 cc2131-2
59. Mr. LEVY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated cost of reducing the rate of Income Tax by sixpence and a shilling in the pound, respectively?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given to the hon. Member for Colchester (Mr. Lewis) on the 14th March last in reply to similar questions relating to certain Customs duties.

Mr. LEVY

Will the right hon. Gentleman give careful consideration, when framing his Budget, to the importance of the stimulating effect which a reduction of the tariff would have on trade and industry, and alternatively the very depressing effect of not making any reduction?

On a point of Order. By a slip of the tongue I understand that I mentioned the word "tariff." I intended to say "tax."
