§ Sir ARTHUR STEEL-MAITLANDMay I have the leave of the House to make a personal statement? My attention has been drawn to a statement which I made in the Debate on Carlton House Terrace about Messrs. Pinchin Johnson and Co., to the effect that that company was controlled for all practical purposes by foreign capital. The managing director of the company has informed me that the statement was not justified, and has shown me facts which convince me that the information on which I made it is incorrect. I should dislike to be the author of any inaccurate statement in this House, and not to correct it when asked to do so by those whom, it affects, and I therefore wish to withdraw that statement unreservedly, and to say that only a very small fraction of the shareholding is in foreign ownership, and therefore I am satisfied that the control of the company is for all practical purposes wholly British.
