HC Deb 13 March 1933 vol 275 c1610
Mr. DOBBIE (by Private Notice)

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he has any statement to make regarding the disaster last Friday at the Aldwarke Colliery, Rotherham?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Mr. Ernest Brown)

I very much regret to Have to inform the House that two lives were lost on Friday morning at Aldwarke Main Colliery as a consequence of an inrush of water which resulted from a holing into a relatively small reservoir that had accumulated in the waste against a fault. Investigations are still proceeding and, I understand, the inquest is to be held to-day. The House will join with me in expressing deep sympathy with the bereaved and relief at the escape of a number of men working in the district.
