HC Deb 07 March 1933 vol 275 c974
13. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs if he has received any communication concerning the negotiations proceeding between the Canadian and American Governments for trade reciprocity; and whether he will inform the House of the present position?

The SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. J. H. Thomas)

I have received no communication from His Majesty's Government in Canada as to any such negotiations, and am not in a position to make any statement on the subject.

Mr. MANDER

Can the right hon. Gentleman give an assurance that no obstacle will be placed in the way of such a great and worthy attempt to reduce world tariffs?

Mr. THOMAS

I can give no assurance in advance of information.

Mr. HANNON

In reference to the point which has just been put by the hon. Member for East Wolverhampton (Mr. Mander), is it not the duty of my right hon. Friend to carry out our part of the bargain?

Mr. THOMAS

As far as we are concerned, we intend to carry out our part of the bargain.
