HC Deb 29 June 1933 vol 279 c1637
2. Mr. RUTHERFORD

asked the Minister of Labour the greatest distance in any urban district in Middlesex between the town hall and the nearest Employment Exchange?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Sir Henry Betterton)

The greatest distance is three and a-half miles.

Mr. RUTHERFORD

Does not the right hon. Gentleman consider that Employment Exchanges should be provided, where possible, so that persons should not have to walk all that distance?

Sir H. BETTERTON

I might point out to my hon. Friend that these regulations have been in force for over three years. He will realise what an immense expense it would be if we set up Employment Exchanges all over the country to deal with limited numbers of exceptional cases.
