HC Deb 20 June 1933 vol 279 cc644-5
53. Mr. LAMBERT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has had any further communications with the Brewers' Society in regard to the basis on which the reduction of the Beer Duty was effected; and whether he can now say, for the information of growers of English barley, what steps will be taken to fulfil the assurances given as regards increased utilisation of home-grown malting barley?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The Brewers Society have stated that members of the society have unanimously confirmed the promise made by their representatives in connection with this year's Budget, and that the society are taking, and will continue to take, every possible means of securing the loyal adherence to the agreement. In the circumstances my right hon. Friend proposes to wait until there has been time to appreciate the results of their assurance.
