HC Deb 13 June 1933 vol 279 c10
38. Mr. LAWSON

asked the Minister of Health if he has considered the memorandum submitted to him from the County Councils Association setting forth their proposals for dealing with unemployment in their respective areas; and whether he will state the result of the meeting of a deputation of this body with a number of Ministers?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

The Government were not able to accept the proposal put forward by the Association for subsidising relief work by payments from the National Exchequer in respect of the employment of persons who would otherwise receive transitional payments or public assistance.
