HC Deb 01 June 1933 vol 278 cc2049-50
38. Mr. RANKIN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in any future negotiations for trade treaties, he will consider the advisability of including a Clause which shall provide that the co-signatory country shall henceforward limit any further subsidies to its shipping?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Runciman)

The trade negotiations in which I am at present engaged have been undertaken with a view to securing increased facilities for the export of British goods, but as my hon. Friend knows shipping subsidies is one of the subjects on the draft agenda for the forthcoming World Economic Conference.
