HC Deb 27 July 1933 vol 280 c2773
59. Captain RAMSAY

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will state what progress has been made in the negotiations which have been undertaken with a view to securing a reduction in the importation of Dominion oats?

Major ELLIOT

The discussions to which I referred during my speech on 11th July on the Ministry's Estimates are continuing. I am hopeful that a satisfactory arrangement will be arrived at and that either I or my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland will be able to make a statement at an early date.

Captain RAMSAY

May I ask whether the negotiations tend to prove that Dominion and home growers are able fully to supply this market, and, if that is the fact, will the right hon. Gentleman take steps to safeguard that market?

Major ELLIOT

I do not think that exactly arises out of the question.
