HC Deb 26 July 1933 vol 280 c2596
Lieut.-Colonel SANDEMAN ALLEN

(by Private Notice) asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been drawn to the case of Captain C. M.,Wray of steamship "Bactria" who has been sentenced, at Istanbul, to 15 months 22 days and a fine of £70 for alleged smuggling of spirits, and is he satisfied that guilt has been established and that adequate steps were taken to protect the interests of a British subject?

Mr. EDEN

My attention has been drawn to this case, which is being watched by His Majesty's Ambassador in Turkey. Captain Wray has now appealed, and the appeal has not yet been heard. I cannot, therefore, comment on the verdict, but I am satisfied that everything possible has been, and is being, done to protect Captain Wray's interests.
