HC Deb 26 July 1933 vol 280 c2581
53. Sir EDWARD CAMPBELL

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state when it is proposed to introduce the Rubber Industry Bill into this House?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Dr. Burgin)

In recent weeks a number of rubber manufacturers who were formerly in favour of the proposals in this Bill have changed their views, and the main principle of the Bill does not now command such support in the industry as would justify the Government in proceeding with it. I understand, however, that efforts are being made to continue the work of the Research Association of British Rubber Manufacturers by means of voluntary subscriptions.
