§ 6. Mr. NUNNasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has received a Report from His Majesty's Minister in China on the effect of the Chinese Government's order that all foreign companies must be registered in the Chinese registry?
§ Mr. EDENYes, Sir. A report has been received from His Majesty's Minister in China on the subject and this is now under consideration.
§ Mr. NUNNIs the hon. Gentleman aware that the chief objection of the commercial community in China is not to mere registration, but to the fact that the regulations are most onerous, and that they include even the right of the Chinese Government to call for and retain the books of a firm?
§ Mr. EDENWe are very much aware of the importance of this subject, and that is why we are considering this report.
