HC Deb 11 July 1933 vol 280 cc905-6
21. Colonel GOODMAN

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs what progress, if any, has been made towards obtaining a greater degree of uniformity of standard of Empire content throughout the British Commonwealth, as recommended last year by the Imperial Conference at Ottawa?

Mr. J. H. THOMAS

There is nothing which I am able to add to the answers which I gave to the hon. and gallant Member on 13th December and 14th February, and to the answer which my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade gave to him on 28th February.

Colonel GOODMAN

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that it is nearly a year since the Imperial Conference at Ottawa recommended that the investigation into Empire content should take place as rapidly as possible, and does he not think it is time something was done?

Mr. THOMAS

It is not only true, but investigation has taken place repeatedly. This is not a one-sided matter as far as the Board of Trade are concerned. They are interested in the British manufacturing side and it is that side of the question that they are pressing.
