§ 27. Mr. MANDERasked the Home Secretary whether any permits have recently been granted to German subjects desirous to visit this country for the purpose of visiting aeroplane factories?
§ Sir J. GILMOURGerman visitors coming to this country for business purposes have to satisfy the immigration officer that leave may properly be given to them to land; but the question whether such a visitor may be intending to visit an aeroplane factory is not a point of which special note would necessarily be taken for the purpose of the administration of the Aliens Order; and the records of the Aliens Department do not enable me to answer this question.
§ Mr. MANDERWill my right hon. Friend see that no German visitors are 922 allowed to come here to purchase armed aircraft for use in Germany?
28. Captain CAZALETasked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the recent case of Miss Germaine Larsonneur, who was convicted of being in the United Kingdom without permission of the Home Office and of being connected with the organised alien traffic into this country which is taking place with a view to arranging marriages of convenience whereby alien women obtain British nationality; and what steps does he propose to take to put a stop to this traffic?
§ Sir J. GILMOURYes, Sir. I am fully alive to the need for preventing alien women coming to this country and contracting marriages of convenience for the purpose of obtaining British nationality. For some years past steps have been taken to prevent this, and the circumstances of the case to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers indicate that they are effective.
Captain CAZALETDoes not my right hon. Friend think that the solution of this problem would be to extend to women the same regulations regarding nationality as apply to men to-day?
