HC Deb 06 July 1933 vol 280 c479
1. Mr. GUY

asked the Minister of Labour the percentage of the male temporary clerical assistants in the Ministry of Labour at the last convenient date who are ex-service men?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Sir Henry Betterton)

Of 7,641 temporary male clerks in the Ministry of Labour on the 1st April, 1933, 7,246, or 94.8 per cent., were ex-service men.

Mr. GUY

Am I right in assuming from the reply of the Minister, that he is adhering to the principle of preference to ex-service men in regard to employment when considering dismissals on account of redundancy and when considering reinstatement?

Sir H. BETTERTON

I am strictly adhering to the rules which have been in operation since the War that preference should be given to ex-service men.
