§ 29. Captain HEILGERSasked the Minister of Agriculture whether the milk marketing scheme will be in operation for the forthcoming year's contract period beginning on 1st October, 1933?
§ Major ELLIOTAssuming, as I hope, that the scheme passes successfully through the various stages laid down by the Agricultural Marketing Act, 1931, including approval by Parliament, there will be time to bring it into operation, subject to any modifications agreed with the promoters, before 1st October, 1933. My hon. and gallant Friend will no doubt keep in mind that the scheme will previously have had to secure the assent of the requisite number of the producers.
§ Mr. SMITHERSWill the Government undertake as soon as practicable to stop the import of all milk products in view of the fact that this country can produce all the necessary milk products?
§ Mr. MANDERWill they stop all foreign imports?
§ Major ELLIOTThe importation of milk products has been under consideration with the countries concerned, and we have secured very considerable reductions in these imports.
§ Brigadier-General CLIFTON BROWNWill the report of the commissioner now conducting an inquiry be available to the public?
§ Major ELLIOTNo. The report is simply made to the Minister.
