HC Deb 06 July 1933 vol 280 c494
29. Captain HEILGERS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether the milk marketing scheme will be in operation for the forthcoming year's contract period beginning on 1st October, 1933?

Major ELLIOT

Assuming, as I hope, that the scheme passes successfully through the various stages laid down by the Agricultural Marketing Act, 1931, including approval by Parliament, there will be time to bring it into operation, subject to any modifications agreed with the promoters, before 1st October, 1933. My hon. and gallant Friend will no doubt keep in mind that the scheme will previously have had to secure the assent of the requisite number of the producers.

Mr. SMITHERS

Will the Government undertake as soon as practicable to stop the import of all milk products in view of the fact that this country can produce all the necessary milk products?

Mr. MANDER

Will they stop all foreign imports?

Major ELLIOT

The importation of milk products has been under consideration with the countries concerned, and we have secured very considerable reductions in these imports.

Brigadier-General CLIFTON BROWN

Will the report of the commissioner now conducting an inquiry be available to the public?

Major ELLIOT

No. The report is simply made to the Minister.
