HC Deb 04 July 1933 vol 280 cc160-1
30. Mr. TINKER

asked the Home Secretary if he is now in a position to say what amount of compensation has been paid to the injured workmen belonging to the firm of Bromilow Fosters, Ashton's Colliery Company, St. Helens, which closed down in October, 1931?

Mr. HACKING

I understand that the claims to compensation have only just been settled and that the liquidator is now applying to the court for an Order approving the settlements and authorising distribution of the assets.

Mr. TINKER

Is the right bon. Gentleman aware of the long time which has elapsed since the company went into liquidation, and will he urge that matters should be dealt with quicker than they are being dealt with at the present time.

Mr. HACKING

I regret the lapse of time as much as any bon. Member, but it has not been the fault of the Home Office. Now that the matter has definitely been dealt with, I hope that it may be possible to make some payment on account. In any case, I expect that there will be a complete settlement by October.
