asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state the total value of Canadian imports from the United Kingdom for the first quarter of 1933; the total value of imports from the United States for the same period; what was the value of free imports in each ease; and the average rate of duty on dutiable imports from the United Kingdom and the United States of America, respectively?

During the first quarter of 1933 the total value of imports into Canada consigned from the United Kingdom and the United States amounted to 18,092,000 dollars and 47,231,000 dollars, respectively, and the total value of free imports from these countries amounted to 6,513,000 dollars and 15,730,000 dollars, respectively. Particulars of the average rate of duty on dutiable imports into Canada consigned from specified countries are available only in respect of fiscal years, and the latest figures in my possession relate to the year ended March, 1932.
