HC Deb 28 February 1933 vol 275 c183
55. Sir A. M. SAMUEL

asked the hon. and gallant Member for Rye (Sir G. Courthope), as representing the Forestry Commissioners, whether any record is kept showing the percentage of trees planted by the Commission that have lived; and what has been thus far the over-all average cost per living tree defrayed out of public funds?

Colonel Sir GEORGE COURTHOPE (Forestry Commissioner)

Records are kept and show that 77.5 of the trees planted by the Forestry Commission have lived. It is estimated that the over-all average cost per living tree has been 21/5.d.

Mr. MAXTON

Will the hon. Gentleman tell us in what part of the country the death-rate is highest?

Sir G. COURTHOPE

I should want notice of that question.
