HC Deb 27 February 1933 vol 275 cc13-4
29. Mr. HICKS

asked the Postmaster-General what instructions are given to men retired at 60, who have been compulsorily insured for widows' and orphans' pension, as to the action they should take to safeguard their families in the event of their death prior to reaching the age of 65; and whether arrangements will be made to provide for deduction from the pension of 3½d. a week to cover pensions for widows and orphans?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Sir Kingsley Wood)

A copy of a memorandum issued by the Ministry of Health for the information of persons who cease to be engaged in excepted employment is given to Post Office servants in the circumstances stated by the hon. Member. This memorandum includes instructions regarding the maintenance of insurance rights after retirement, hut it is not practicable to make deductions from pensions For the purpose of voluntary insurance contributions.

Mr. HICKS

Do I understand that the period of pension is covered by the memorandum?

Sir K. WOOD

I will supply the hon. Gentleman with a copy of the memorandum and discuss it with him if necessary.
