HC Deb 23 February 1933 vol 274 cc1903-4
64. Mr. McGOVERN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of persons who have been recommended by the Glasgow Corporation health department to their housing department for a change of house, due to members of the family having tuberculosis?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Mr. Skelton)

The number of recommendations made since April, 1929, when the practice began, is 1,464.

Mr. McGOVERN

I should like to ask the Under-Secretary of State in a very friendly manner, by way of a change, if he would not consider making representations to the Glasgow Corporation to re-house in small apartments these families who have children suffering from tuberculosis in order to prevent the spread of this horrible disease among young children?

Mr. SKELTON

I will consider the hon. Gentleman's recommendation, but as at present advised I do not think I have very much power in the matter.

Mr. BUCHANAN

Seeing that a number of people who are recommended for houses are offered houses the rent of which they cannot pay, will the hon. Gentleman seek to have a conference with the Glasgow Town Council on the whole of this question?

Mr. SKELTON

I will consider that matter.
