HC Deb 23 February 1933 vol 274 cc1893-4
44. Mr. LEWIS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how soon he hopes to be in a position to inform the House as to whether any Minister or Ministers of the Crown will be going to Washington to discuss the settlement of our War Debt to the United States of America?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given yesterday to the hon. Member for Don Valley (Mr. T. Williams) by the Prime Minister.

53. Mr. HAMMERSLEY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can give an assurance that in the conversations with the United States of America the policy of the Government will not go beyond the policy laid down in the Balfour Note?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Our policy in these matters has been frequently stated. It would not be desirable for me to say more than has been already said, pending the forthcoming discussions.
