HC Deb 20 February 1933 vol 274 c1427
1. Mr. REMER (for Mr. HANNON)

asked the Secretary of State for India what contracts for the supply of locomotives and other railway material have recently been placed with continental firms; and if any action has been taken by the India Office to secure that these contracts should be placed in this country?

Sir S. HOARE

Of the orders for railway stores recently placed by the High Commissioner for India and by the Indian railway companies in London only some 6 per cent. were obtained by continental firms. In addition some contracts have been placed with these firms by railway authorities in India direct, but I have no information as to the amounts. As regards the last part of the question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on 30th November to my hon. Friend the Member for West Bromwich (Captain A. Ramsay).
