HC Deb 16 February 1933 vol 274 c1161
31. Captain CROOKSHANK

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the many different methods in use for counting votes at Parliamentary elections and of the inefficiency and slowness of some of them, he will take steps to secure the universal adoption of whatever system has been proved by experience to be the best?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I have no evidence that the adoption of any particular method of counting has led to inefficiency or slowness. If the hon. and gallant Member will give me any such evidence, I shall be glad to consider whether there are any steps I can usefully take. I have no power, however, to insist on the universal adoption of any particular system.
