HC Deb 16 February 1933 vol 274 cc1175-6
66. Mr. WHITE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the practice of including dock rates and charges in the value of goods for duty is now uniform at all United Kingdom ports?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The principle of the inclusion of dock rates and charges in the value of goods for duty is uniform but its application in practice necessarily varies in accordance with the varying conditions at different ports.

Mr. WHITE

Is it not the case that these charges have been included in some cases and not others, with the result that some ports have been favoured at the expense of others, and is it not desirable to secure uniform treatment?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

It is not possible to introduce a uniform practice, because the conditions vary at different ports. If the hon. Member will give me any particulars of any difference to which his attention has been directed I will look into it.
