29. Mr. TINKER (for Mr. PARKINSON)

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will state the terms of reference of the committee recently appointed in the Gambia Colony to examine the Ordinances relating to criminal law and procedure and to prepare a penal code?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

The terms of reference of the committee in question are: To examine the Ordinances and Statutes relating to criminal law and procedure now in force in the Colony, in other African Colonies, and in England; and to prepare a Penal Code Bill and Criminal Procedure Code Bill consolidating the enactments relating to criminal law and procedure now in force in the Colony, and incorporating in such Bills any provisions of the criminal law and procedure found in the enactments of other African Colonies and England, which the Committee consider suitable for the Colony.
