§ Major ELLIOTI am informed by the Wheat Commission that in all 228 assignments have been notified to the Commission. As previously explained it is not easy to distinguish private landowners from other persons, but of the 228 assignments 33 are, I understand, in favour of private persons, 47 in favour of the Commissioners of Crown Lands, and 56 in favour of Joint Stock Banks; the remaining 92 are in favour of merchants.
§ Mr. WILLIAMSDoes the right hem. Gentleman approve of the Crown Commissioners receiving these assignments?
§ Major ELLIOTCertainly. Crown Commissioners have to receive the due receipts for their property the same as anyone else.
