HC Deb 21 December 1933 vol 284 cc1459-60
27. Mr. T. SMITH

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been directed to the circumstances leading to the appointment by the Middlesex County Council of an assistant steward at the North Middlesex Hospital; and, as this appointment is prejudicial to the claims of transferred officers, will he have inquiries made into this case?

Sir H. YOUNG

The appointment in question is not one requiring my sanction, and I do not consider that inquiries would be useful.

Mr. SMITH

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the circumstances surrounding this case, and is it not in the interests of satisfaction among the other officers to look into it?

Sir H. YOUNG

The circumstances of the case are known to me so far as it is necessary that they should be, but, as I pointed out to the hon. Member, I have no status for interfering in the matter, and, therefore, inquiries would not be proper.
