60. Lieut.-Colonel SANDEMAN ALLENasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether those areas whose poor rate has now increased to distressed-area level will be eligible for a share in the £300,000 grant?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe concession to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers only applies to those authorities who are receiving a grant in the current year out of the Vote for special grants to local authorities in distressed areas. My hon. and gallant Friend will appre- 535 ciate no doubt that if the expenditure on the able-bodied unemployed in any area would, apart from the Bill, have been more than in the standard year, the relief to that area under the Bill will be correspondingly increased.
