HC Deb 12 December 1933 vol 284 cc195-6
34. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Health if his attention has been called to the proposal to lease a large tract of the South Downs for motor racing; and what action he proposes to take with a view to preserving the scenery unspoilt?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Mr. Shakespeare)

My right hon. Friend is aware of this proposal. As it is possible that it may at a later stage come before him for determination on appeal, it would not be proper for him to intervene in the meantime, nor, as matters stand, has he any power to do so. If the issue should come before him, my right hon. Friend would give a decision only after affording all parties an opportunity to state their case.
