HC Deb 11 December 1933 vol 284 c28
67. Mr. McENTEE

asked the Minister of Transport whether any proposals have been submitted by the London and North Eastern Railway Company for the electrification of the services from Liverpool Street to Chingford, Liverpool Street to Enfield, Liverpool Street to Ongar, or any of these?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

The railway companies have informed my hon. Friend that the schemes for the electrification of the Great Eastern suburban services at present under consideration include the electrification of the lines between Liverpool Street and Ongar, but not those between Liverpool Street and Chingford or Enfield.

Mr. McENTEE

Will the hon. and gallant Gentleman make representations to the railway companies concerned to include the others, in view of the fact that the congestion on the Liverpool Street to Chingford and to Enfield lines is infinitely greater than it is on the line to Ongar?

Captain CROOKSHANK

Can the hon. and gallant Gentleman say how it is that these things are still under consideration when the present Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs and Sir Oswald Mosley both promised them to this House over three years ago?
