HC Deb 11 December 1933 vol 284 c5
11. Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOX

asked the Secretary of State for India what progress has been made in inaugurating a scheme for rural broadcasting in India; and whether the programmes will be under Government control?

Sir S. HOARE

Experiments in local broadcasting have been made in Madras, Bombay, the Punjab and the North-West Frontier Province. Developments are receiving the close attention of the Government of India and I hope shortly to receive from them a report on the matter.

Sir A. KNOX

Will the right hon. Gentleman answer the last part of the question?

Sir S. HOARE

I presume that if those are Government schemes the programmes will be under Government control.
