Mr. PARKINSONasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been drawn to the first annual report and statement of accounts of the Kilimanjaro Native Co-operative Union, Limited; and whether, in view of the satisfactory nature of the report, he will recommend the further promotion of such co-operative schemes?
§ The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister)I have seen the report, and have also been informed separately by the Governor of the successful working of this Cooperative Union in 1932. The Government of Tanganyika is aware of the desirability of promoting similar schemes in other parts of the territory, but it is essential to provide these with trained supervision from the start. The provision of special training in co-operation for officers serving in Tanganyika has been delayed through lack of funds, but I am glad to say that arrangements are now being made which will overcome this difficulty.
