HC Deb 04 December 1933 vol 283 c1281
1. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for India what representations he has received from India as to the devaluation of the rupee in view of the devaluation of the dollar?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Butler)

I have received a copy of a resolution passed on the 13th November by the Bombay Cotton Brokers' Association, Limited, on the subject.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether the resolution has been passed owing to the depreciation of sterling in terms of dollars?

Mr. BUTLER

I have not a copy of the resolution with me.

Mr. HAMMERSLEY

Is it not a fact that there has been, practically speaking, no considerable fall, or no appreciable fall whatever, in the price of cotton in Bombay?

Mr. BUTLER

That question does not really arise, but I believe that is the case.
