HC Deb 04 December 1933 vol 283 c1295
38. Mr. THORNE

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that at many hospitals the electric light has failed while patients were about to undergo, or were undergoing, operations; and will he appoint a committee to inquire into these cases with a view to making some form of alternative lighting in hospitals compulsory?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Mr. Shakespeare)

My right hon. Friend has no information to show that this difficulty has occurred except on rare occasions, and he does not think that a committee of inquiry is necessary. If, however, the hon. Member will give particulars of any cases that have been brought to his notice, my right hon. Friend will have inquiries made.

Captain PETER MACDONALD

Is it not a fact that certain Socialist borough councils deliberately cut off supplies of electricity during the general strike?

Mr. THORNE

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that as a matter of fact your humble servant had nothing whatever to do with it?

Mr. DEPUTY-SPEAKER

Nor has it with the original question.
