HC Deb 13 April 1933 vol 276 cc2721-2
15. Mr. LAWSON

asked the Minister of Health if he will issue a short statement with a view to explaining to approved societies the changed positions in relation to the loss of medical benefits and pensions under the Act passed last year of those who by reason of prolonged unemployment have failed to stamp their health insurance cards?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

A circular was issued to all approved societies in July of last year explaining the provisions of the National Health Insurance and Contributory Pensions Act, 1932, including the extension of title to medical benefit during the present year and of pensions rights until the end of 1935 in the case of persons who have been unemployed far several years. My right hon. Friend is sending the hon. Member a copy of the circular for his information.

Mr. LAWSON

Is the hon. Gentleman satisfied that the approved societies have explained this matter to their members? There is a great deal of ignorance among the unemployed.

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

I will certainly see that it is brought before the notice of members.
