HC Deb 05 April 1933 vol 276 cc1753-4
16. Mr. GUY

asked the First Commissioner of Works if he is in a position to make any further statement on the proposed scheme for new Government buildings in Edinburgh?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

I am at present unable to add anything to the statement made in answer to questions on the 1st March.

Mr. GUY

Can the First Commissioner of Works say when he will be able to make a more definite statement, and if he will endeavour to come to an early decision on the question of site, so as to prevent any unfortunate controversy developing?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I am afraid that before any decision can be come to the question of the site must be settled, as that is controversial. Until that preliminary is cleared away, it is impossible to give the undertaking.

Mr. C. WILLIAMS

Will the right hon. Gentleman give full consideration to the claims of Glasgow, which is the intellectual centre of Scotland?
