HC Deb 04 April 1933 vol 276 c1578
38. Mr. MABANE

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the large number of fatal and non-fatal accidents attributable to commercial motor vehicles, both passengers and goods, he will give an assurance that no action will be taken to vary the provisions of Section 19 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

The Order made in March, 1931, varying certain provisions of the Section expired on 31st March last. An application has been received from representative organisations on the passenger side of the industry for a new Order. This application was heard by the Industrial Court on 28th March. Pending its further consideration, I have, on the advice of the Court, made a temporary Order for two months in the same terms as the Order that has just expired, in so far as it relates to the operation of public passenger vehicles. So far as goods, vehicles are concerned, no application has been made to me under the Section for a further Order, and the provisions of the Section therefore apply at present to these vehicles without variation.
