HC Deb 04 April 1933 vol 276 c1564
16. Captain HEILGERS

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs if he can make any further statement as to the report of the Royal Commission which is investigating the grievances of overseas settlers in the State of Victoria?

Mr. J. H. THOMAS

I understand that the report of the Royal Commission has within the last few days been submitted to the Victorian Government, but I am not at the moment in a position to make a further statement.

Mr. MAXTON

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether that report will be submitted to him, and if he will have any right of action on the proposals made in the report?

Mr. THOMAS

I should want to see the report before I gave a definite answer.

Mr. MAXTON

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that some particulars of the report have appeared in the newspapers already?

Mr. THOMAS

As a very careful Minister, I take notice only of the report.
