asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will be able to announce the policy of the Government with regard to the taxation of co-operative societies when he opens his forthcoming Budget?

My hon. and gallant Friend must not expect me to anticipate the Budget statement.

When my right hon. Friend is considering this matter, will he bear in mind, in addition to the report of the Royal Commission, the very voluminous evidence given on behalf of the retail traders of this country by the deputation which I had the honour of introducing to him some months ago?

All relevant matters will be borne in mind.
