Mr. THORNE (for Mr. GROVES)asked the Prime Minister if the Government is now ready to receive overtures from local authorities in respect of proposed schemes of work in order to relieve the position of the unemployed; and whether he can give some assurance that the schemes of work which were stopped a year ago can soon be recommenced and that other schemes already sanctioned by Parliament can be begun?

§ The PRIME MINISTERThe whole purpose of that Debate is that we may engage in an exchange of views, and get some understanding on each other's position in a better way than by a mere party Debate.

§ The PRIME MINISTERMy hon. Friend need have no doubt at all about the members of the Government making a contribution to that Debate.
